Combined Degree Programs
M.D. /Ph.D. Program
The school offers a combined M.D. /Ph.D. training program to applicants with an outstanding record of achievement and a commitment to a career in biomedical science. At least 3 additional years beyond the standard 4-year curriculum is required to complete M.D./Ph.D. program.
Applications must be submitted to AMCAS between June 1 and November 1 at 11:59 PM, Eastern Standard Time. Applications are available for U.S. citizens or permanent U.S. residents only.

M.D. /M.S.P.H. or M.D. /M.P.H. Program
Two other combined degree programs are available to medical students. The combined M.D./M.S.P.H. (Master of Science in Public Health) or M.D./M.P.H. (Master of Public Health) degrees combine clinical training with the perspective and skills of public health and preventive medicine. The M.P.H. degree requires 45 credit hours of course work. The M.S.P.H. requires 55 credit hours of course work and is a research-based degree.
Students who wish to apply for any of the combined programs after initial matriculation in to medical school must have approval from the Dean of Student Affairs prior to admission into the program. Applications must be made prior to June 30 after the second year in medical school. Students are required to take a Leave of Absence from the medical school to complete the degree requirement. The leave should be taken between the second and third years of medical school. It is expected that part of the fourth year of medical school will be used to conduct research and write a required thesis or publishable paper for the M.S.P.H degree.
At least one additional year beyond the standard 4-year curriculum is required to complete the M.D./M.S.P.H. and M.D./M.P.H. combined degree programs.
A formal application to the Graduate School is required. If a student is accepted to medical school he or she may substitute the MCAT for the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) requirement.
