The Dean's Greatest Need Fund

The University of Utah School of Medicine Alumni Association Fund (The Dean's Greatest Need Fund) provides alumni of the School of Medicine with opportunities to offer continuing support to the school through their annual gifts.

Because these gifts are unrestricted, they give the school flexibility to address specific educational priorities and take advantage of unexpected opportunities as they arise.

Past Uses of Fund Monies

  • Remodeling the medical student lounge and the computer study area.
  • Matching $75,000 in restricted donations to design and furnish Alumni Hall in the Spencer F. and Cleone P. Eccles Health Sciences Education Building.
  • Support numerous student programs
  • Provide student financial support and recognition, such as the Fourth-Year Award.
  • Helped defray the publishing costs of Illuminations, the School of Medicine Alumni magazine

Unrestricted gifts to this fund help support Alumni programs; such as the Alumni Medical Weekend and the annual Awards Banquet recognizing distinguished alumni and distinguished medical service providers.

In addition to the monetary benefits an alumni donation to the School of Medicine helps leverage foundation and corporate giving. When evaluating grants, corporations and foundations frequently consider alumni participation as a measure of a school's stature and stability. Also, many college ranking organizations view alumni participation as an indicator of alumni satisfaction.
