The Alumni Association recognized Debra Regier at the 2009 Dean's Reception with a plaque and a $500 gift for being an outstanding member of the Class of 2009.
The Alumni Association Award was established in 1990 by the Alumni Board and is presented to one individual who has, in the opinion of their classmates, demonstrated academic achievement, leadership ability, and community concern representative of an exemplary physician.
Debra's classmates wrote that she is a student who demonstrated compassionate to all of her classmates and to her patients. She was a constant in helping her classmates achieve success. She was always willing to tutor classmates and provide help with board preparations. Debra was a constant high performer in medical school classes. She was especially helpful with biochemistry, a subject where most of her class feels she was the most effective instrustor they had.
She gave selflessly of her time and ability to help her classmates. She identified people who were new to Utah and suggested churches, social contacts, and even offered to babysit without pay several times for many of our class who had children so we could go on dates, cram for exams, or get Christmas shopping done.
Debra volunteered many hours of service while in medical school. She has been extensively involved at the 4th Street Homeless Clinic and with other volunteer medical activities. She volunteered many hours with her Youth Ministry at her church, where she designed and implemented an entire new curriculum.
It is safe to say that her efforts and time spent supporting and leading her classmates and community equal her academic leadership and pursuits. This, and many other reasons, is why Debra Regier was chosen to receive this honor.
