Graduate Certificate Program
The Certificate Program allows students to gain a broad background in core Informatics issues, as well as more specialized knowledge in sub-domains such as bioinformatics, public health informatics, clinical information systems and medical imaging. Individual programs of study allow for further specialization and development of knowledge in related fields.

Certificate Program Acceptance Criteria and Prerequisites
Applicants must have
- Undergraduate degree; GPA of 3.0 (minimum)
- Completed a basic statistics course and a programming class, or have equivalent experience.
- GRE is not required
Application Deadlines
- July 1 for Fall Semester
- November 1 for Spring Semester
Application Instructions
Courses
A minimum of fifteen hours of course credits is needed for a Certificate. The curriculum for the Graduate Certificate in Biomedical Informatics requires 2 semesters of Graduate Seminar (BMI 7000) and any one of the following:
- Foundations of Healthcare Informatics (BMI 6010)
- Foundations of Bioinformatics (BMI 6030)
- Public Health Informatics (BMI 6700)
The remainder of the 15 credit hours are taken as electives. Students may select courses to meet their learning objectives. All of the existing courses offered in the department will be available to Certificate students, although the research courses are less appropriate. It is expected that at least 12 of the 15 required hours will be from the Biomedical Informatics Department course list. Standard course prerequisite requirements will be followed as with degree seeking students. Students must earn at least a B- in each course in order to receive credit for the Certificate. A faculty advisor will be assigned to each student to guide them in selecting courses that best meet their needs.
ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS!
The “Differential Zero Hour Tuition” and the “Differential per Credit Hour” charges pertain only to new students in the Biomedical Informatics (BMI) Program who will start Fall 2010 and beyond. Non-BMI students who sign up for BMI courses will be charged the “Differential per Credit Hour” charge only. Non-BMI students will not have to pay the “Differential Zero Hour Tuition” charges.
