Mission Statement
Fulfilling lifelong learning needs of physicians to provide quality patient care.
Purpose
The University of Utah Continuing Medical Education (UUCME) program supports lifelong learning for University of Utah faculty and community physicians, and other healthcare professionals and serves as a critical element in The University of Utah continuum of medical education.
The UUCME program provides research, evidence-based and clinically-oriented activities that are designed to change competence, performance or improve patient outcomes through improved quality and safety of medical care, a reduction in medical errors, more appropriate prescribing practices for medications and treatments, and appropriate referral to medical specialists.
Content Areas
The content includes advances in science resulting from basic biomedical research and its translation and application in clinical practice, evidence-based and clinically-oriented topics for generalists and specialists practicing in the academic medical center or in the community.
Target Audience
The primary target audience includes academic medical center and community physicians practicing in the Intermountain region. Many of our activities attract a national and international audience.
Type of Activities
UUCME uses a wide variety of activity types, including single and multi-day courses, regularly scheduled series, enduring materials, Internet CME, journal CME, Learning from Teaching, performance improvement, and Internet searching and learning.
Expected Results
Our educational initiatives will improve practice by changing physician competence, performance, or improved patient care, as reflected in:
- translation of research and application of advances in medical science, best practices and evidence-based recommendations for the restoration, maintenance, and promotion of physical and mental health;
- desirable physician competencies; and
- the quality, safety and cost of medical care.
