Don’t wait until everything is nearly finalized. Contact UUCME early so that you’ll be better equipped for addressing ways to enhance educational effectiveness. UUCME will help you explore insightful instructional design and help you anticipate barriers that can potentially interfere with attaining your desired outcomes. Even if this event is modeled after a previously-held activity, there may be ways to improve its effectiveness.
CME Planning Process
The CME Office is responsible for all CME activities approved for AMA PRA Category 1 credit™. Schedule an appointment with UUCME to discuss the design elements that will inform the creation of a CME plan that complies with the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) criteria. Once the plan has been approved to offer AMA PRA Category 1 credit, you are free to publicize the activity.
Identifying Financial Conflicts of Interest
The University of Utah strives to be an honest broker of continuing professional education. Educational content should represent a valid portrayal of the state of affairs, and is free from commercial influence. Your role as planner gives you the opportunity to affect CME content, but does your course's content intersect in any manner with any products or services of the commercial interest that you have a relationship? Resolving conflicts of interest is never intended to get in the way of legitimate education, while at the same time these potentially conflicted relationships must be managed to prevent commercial bias and assure content validity.
