Leonard J. Haas, PhD
Is the Behavioral Science Director for the Family Medicine residency. He is a native of Lewiston, Maine, (where he grew up as the son of a country doctor) and joined the DFPM faculty in 1990. Dr. Haas completed his Ph.D. in clinical psychology at the University of Colorado, interned at the Palo Alto VA Medical Center in clinical psychology and family therapy, and completed post doctoral training at the University of Utah. He is board certified in clinical psychology and family psychology. His clinical and research interests focus on mental health issues in primary care, doctor/patient communications, brief office-based counseling, smoking cessation, and professional ethics. He practices at the Madsen and Sugarhouse clinics and skis anywhere there's good powder. He serves on the Family Medicine Residency Curriculum Committee.
In addition to his residency and practice activities, he teaches in the Department’s Public Health Program and is Health Behavior Change leader for University Health Care’s developing “Integrated Wellness” initiative.
