Susan Saffel-Shrier, MS, RD, CD, Certifies Gerontologist


Susan Saffel-Shrier Susan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine, University of Utah School of Medicine in Salt Lake City, Utah. She received her Masters of Science degree in nutrition along with graduate level certification in gerontology from the University of Utah. She is responsible for teaching both medical students and family medicine residents, is the director of geriatric education for the Family Medicine Residency Program and is an Adjunct Associate Instructor in the Division of Nutrition. She has a clinical nutrition practice at the University of Utah Sugar House Family Health Clinic. In addition to her service to the University of Utah, Susan has held multi-year contracts with Community Nursing Service Hospice and Salt Lake County Aging Services. She is a past chair of the Gerontological Nutritionist and a member of Task Force on Aging of the American Dietetic Association, past president of the Utah Dietetic Association and the Utah Nutrition Council. Susan has served on numerous aging related professional committees. She has recently received the Outstanding Teaching Facilitator in medical education, Department of Family and Preventive Medicine, the Award of Merit from the Utah Dietetic Association for longstanding contributions to the field of nutrition and the Outstanding Alumus Award from the Division of Nutrition, University of Utah..
