Eric M. Wood, MD, MPH

Dr. WoodEric Wood, MD, MPH is an Occupational, Environmental, and Family Medicine physician. His professional interests include medical assessment following hazardous exposures, evaluation and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders, evidence-based medicine, commercial driver medical qualification, and occupational safety and health research and education. Dr. Wood participates in the development of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM)'s evidence-based practice guidelines (ACOEM's Occupational Medicine Practice Guidelines, 2nd Edition and Updates). He is an investigator in a study that is examining causes of injuries and chronic illnesses in truck drivers. He is also an investigator on two studies that examine the ergonomic and general medical factors that cause or place workers at increased risk for upper extremity and low back pain. Prior to entering medical school, he worked as a professional industrial hygienist with both private consultants and Utah OSHA.

Dr. Wood is Director of the Occupational and Environmental Medicine Residency program in the Rocky Mountain Center for Occupational and Environmental Health, a National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health-sponsored Education and Research Center. He teaches in several graduate level courses, including Toxicology, Occupational Health and Safety Solutions, and Occupational Injury and Disease. Dr. Wood authored the Musculoskeletal Disorders chapter in The DOT Medical Examination: A Guide to Commercial Drivers' Medical Certification, Fourth Edition, and teaches in ACOEM's Commercial Driver Medical Examiner course. He is an active member of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, the American College of Preventive Medicine, and the American Academy of Family Physicians.

Qualifications:
Dr. Wood is board certified in Preventive Medicine in the subspecialty of Occupational and Environmental Medicine and board certified in Family Medicine. He received a Master of Public Health degree with emphasis in Industrial Hygiene from the University of Hawaii in 1987. He graduated from the University of Utah School of Medicine in 1995. He completed Family Medicine residency at the University of Nevada, Reno, in 1998 and Occupational and Environmental Medicine residency at the University of Utah in 2003.
