Fourth Street Homeless Clinic

Medical students voluntarily operate a Saturday clinic for the homeless with local health care providers at the Fourth Street Clinic. One attending volunteers to supervise and the clinic runs from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM each Saturday. The Saturday clinic offers primary health care including pediatric and gynecological health care, social work, dental care, laboratory work, immunizations and medications to its patients as well as appropriate outside referrals.

A S.O.A.P. Notes noon-hour presentation is offered to medical students every fall to facilitate their participation at the Saturday Clinic. The Fourth Street Homeless Clinic’s webpage at http://umed.med.utah.edu/get_involved/clubs/homelessclinic/index.html includes a volunteer handbook and sign up link as well as a list of the current student managers. The Dean’s Office is notified on an annual basis of students who participate in at least five Saturday clinic sessions for inclusion in the students’ Medical Student Performance Evaluation—formerly known as the Dean’s letter.
