(Costs include shared accommodations, program-related travel, international health insurance, program excursions, welcome and farewell social events, and some meals. Costs do not include international airfare, passport and visa fees, some meals, personal expenses, optional excursions).

Through the High School University Program (HSUP) the Division of Public Health is offering high school sophomores, juniors and seniors the opportunity to earn college credit for participating in the Junior Global Scholars trip. The 4-college credit cost will be in additional to the trip cost. More information to follow.

Program Information:

Imagine yourself on a learning abroad trip to Ghana and Paris. You will spend two and half weeks in Ghana and four days in Paris (June 2018).

  • Interact with colleagues from the Ensign College of Public Health
  • Interact with community members living in Ghana
  • Help improve the health of the people in the Eastern Region of Ghana by being a part of a research team.
  • Excursions:
    • Mole National Park – learn about ecotourism and habitat, while we go on elephant safari
    • Cedi Beads – learn about the bead industry and how it is tied to local culture, and then shop with the owner
    • Kakum National Park – proposed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, we will learn about the rain forest as we take a canopy walk
    • Louvre Museum – discover the influence of disease on art and view some of your favorite pieces up close
    • Paris Catacombs and Sewer Museum – understand how Parisians solved health problems associated with disease, and connect that to our observations in Ghana
