About the Program

EdisonThe Edison partnership began in 1999 and is one of our strongest outreach programs - the only on site elementary school program we have. The School of Medicine makes 6 visits a year to Edison Elementary School.

Edison's population of students is very diverse with over 27 languages spoken. During each visit, we alternate between 5th and 6th grade classes, working with teachers to incorporate science and anatomy into their lessons. There are three classrooms in each grade, with each having between 25 and 30 kids.

Medical students break into three groups and teach the same lesson simultaneously during the hour. The Medical Students teach Heart Dissection, Bone Dissection, Kidney Dissection, and Eyeball Dissection.
