Office of Diversity and Community Outreach

Residents and Faculty

Welcome and Mission

We at the Office of Diversity and Community Outreach are dedicated to maintaining and developing an even more accepting environment for diversity at the University Of Utah School Of Medicine.

Our mission is to recruit and retain physicians from Under Represented Minority groups into higher education, promote a supportive social network, educate the public and one another about health issues in diversity, and promote awareness about social, political and economic issues as they relate to diversity at our institution.

Support Services

The DCO serves the needs of URM physicians and students at the SOM through monthly meetings faculty forums, community activities and recruitment of prospective residents and faculty.

We act as your voice in the Retention Committee meetings and in promotion issues, and ensure that all facts are available to decision-makers.

We recognize that the needs of diverse and non-traditional physicians are both similar to those of any physician and just as often different.

In every case, we give residents and faculty members encouragement and reliable information as a means of self-empowerment. Whatever the situation, we offer URM physicians a clear voice and a willing ear.
