Academic Bio
Dr. Quaal received her Ph.D. from the University of Utah. She received training in cardiovascular physiology, mechanical assist for the failing heart and management of the patient with advanced heart failure, arrhythmias and hemodynamic monitoring at the Arizona Heart Institute and Univ of Utah. Dr. Quaal was employed as an Advanced Practice Cardiovascular Nurse Practitioner at the Dept of Veterans Affairs Medical Center for 30 years. She is the author of 3 books on the subjects of intra-aortic balloon pumping and mechanical assist for the failing heart and numerous publications. She has lectured on these subjects extensively throughout the United States, Europe, UK, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Philippines, So Africa and Canada. She serves on the Editorial Board of 5 medical journals. She is a past board member of the American Heart Association, Arizona Heart Institute, Univ of Louisville Dept of Biomedical Engineering, Inha University, Seoul, Korea, advance practice curriculum development, Univ of Capetown College of Nursing advanced practice curriculum development and Charing Cross Hospital, London, England, Coronary Care Unit Board of Directors. Her research interests include hemodynamic monitoring and air transport of the patient requiring intra-aortic balloon pump support.
