Academic Bio
Dr. McIntosh graduated from the University of California at Los Angeles Medical School, completed residency training at the University of Colorado and is board-certified in general adult psychiatry. He is Professor with tenure in the Department of Psychiatry and Research Professor in the Department of Biology. His research focuses on the development of novel compounds for the treatment of addiction and the treatment of chronic pain. He currently has three funded grants from the National Institutes of Health and has published over 200 peer-reviewed articles. He serves as the Director of Research in the Psychiatry Department. His responsibilities include mentoring young investigators, advising the Chairman on research activities and resources and serving as a liaison to research activities within the University. As Research Director he also works with senior faculty to assist with facilities and resource planning, career development and as needed, conflict resolution. He also serves as Co-Chairman of the Psychiatry Promotions, Retention and Tenure Committee, with special responsibility for review of tenure track and research track faculty members. Dr. McIntosh is also is the Director of the Psychosomatic Clinic where he sees medically complex patients with co-morbid psychiatric conditions. He is ranked by US News and World Reports among the top 1% of doctors in the United States. Teaching assignments include clinical supervision of psychiatry residents and core didactic lectures on the subject of neuroscience.
