Track Switching
Track switching is treated as a new appointment. Departments must adhere to all recruitment, selection/offer, and appointment policies and procedures when moving faculty between tracks.Moving from the Tenure Track
- Tenure Track faculty may switch to the Full-Time Clinical Track during the first three years of appointment or within three months of the completion of the third year review.
- Moves from the Tenure Track to the Clinical Track at any other time require special consideration from the Senior Vice President for Health Sciences.
The criteria for appointment on the Full-time Clinical Track emphasizes clinical care and teaching, with minimal focus on national recognition. Therefore, when a faculty member is switching from the Tenure Track to the Full-time Clinical Track, inside letter writers are best able to evaluate teaching and clinical care.
The criteria for appointment on the Research Track focuses entirely on research. Therefore, when a faculty member is recommended for a switch from the Research Track to the Tenure Track, letters from the institution are required to demonstrate the individual's abilities in research, teaching and administrative work.
