Long Term Disability Insurance
Housestaff are provided with a regular occupation, disability income insurance policy by the University of Utah through Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company as a benefit to you during your residency.
It is an individual non-cancelable and guaranteed renewable disability income insurance policy, which provides Housestaff with approximately $2,492 of monthly income benefit if disabled. Each policy is issued on a guaranteed basis, is portable, protects your regular occupation, maximum benefits payable to age 65, and includes a future increase benefit to help keep the benefit amount in line with inflation.
The policy provides for full, proportionate and transitional benefits as well. The policy is owned by the Houseofficer and can be continued after completion of training by assuming premium payments. The University pays for premiums on the basic long-term policy while the Houseofficer is in training.
