How much does it snow in Salt Lake City?
The average snowfall in the valleys is 64 inches per year. The mountains however get between 350-500 inches per year.
What makes the snow so great?
Because of the climate, there is low moisture content in the snow, making it dry and fluffy, deep powder.
Are there ski resorts nearby?
There are seven world-class resorts within a 50 mile radius of the city.
Can I receive a discount pass?
Many years a number of the resorts offer discounts to University of Utah employees. The GME office can usually help residents with this.
What else is there to do in Salt Lake City?
In Salt Lake City and the surrounding areas you will find world class mountain biking, hiking, trail running and rock climbing. You can choose between short easy strolls around alpine lakes to strenuous rock climbing to the top of the peaks.
There are also numerous venues close by for boating, water sports, fishing, and camping. In addition, Salt Lake City is home to several professional sports teams including the Utah Jazz (NBA), the Salt Lake Bees (MILB), the Utah Grizzlies (ECHL), ReAl Salt Lake (MLS) and the Utah Blaze (AFL).
What about the arts?
Cultural organizations include local theatres, Pioneer Memorial Theatre and Salt Lake Acting Company; dance companies, Ballet West and Repertory Dance Theatre among others, and a wide variety of music including, the Utah Symphony and the Utah Opera Company. The Sundance Film Festival and the Park City Art Festival are nationally recognized events held in Park City, a nearby community.

Is there public transportation?
The Utah Transit Authority (UTA) provides over 100 bus routes throughout the city and county. UTA also provides light-rail service transportation (TRAX) and service to ski resorts in winter. All University of Utah employees can ride the UTA public transportation (buses and Trax) free.

Although Salt Lake City is the home of the world-wide headquarters of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, (the Mormons), over 40% of Utah's population call another religion the one they choose to practice.
What are the liquor laws in Utah?
A person must be 21 to purchase or consume alcohol. A patron cannot be served more than one drink at a time. Before a patron can be served a drink any previous drinks must have been fully consumed. No one under 21 can be present in a tavern or beer bar. Taverns, or beer bars may sell beer no stronger than 3.2% by weight. They need not serve food.
Restaurants may serve alcoholic beverages with meals if it has the proper license. Liquor bottles must be hidden from view. Servers are not allowed to solicit or suggest drinks. Patrons must request a wine list or drink menu. 3.2% beer can be purchased in grocery and convenience stores subject to local ordinances. Utah state-owned liquor Stores are the sole dispensers of carry-out liquor, wine and real beer.
