Rhythm Disorders - Electrophysiology
Arrhythmia Management and Electrophysiology
Our Arrhythmia team manages the inpatient arrhythmia services at the University of Utah Hospital and George E. Wahlen Veterans Hospital.
Arrhythmia patients are seen by our physicians in the Cardiovascular Center at the University of Utah where we recently opened an Atrial Fibrillation Program focusing on the treatment of Atrial Fibrillation by medication and catheter ablation. The program director, Dr. Nassir Marrouche, is globally recognized for his innovation in atrial fibrillation ablation techniques.
Patients living in Idaho, Wyoming, and Nevada are seen by our physicians in Outreach Clinics through our partnership with their Primary Care Physician or General Cardiologist.
The patient with rhythm dysfunction receives comprehensive cardiac care, benefiting from the full spectrum of electrophysiology services offered by our physicians. Patients are offered consultations, testing, medical management, and procedures treating arrhythmia dysfunctions.
Procedures Performed by our physicians include:
- Pacemaker implantation
- Defibrillator implantation
- Implantable loop recorder
- Lead extraction
- Bi-Ventricular PM/ICD implant (CRT or Cardiac Resynchronication Therapy)
- Electrophysiology study
- Radio frequency catheter ablation
- Cryo catheter ablation
- Atrial fibrillation ablation
- DC cardioversion
- Tilt table testing
Our Arrhythmia Team
We have five Electrophysiologists on our Arrythmia Team including Mohamed Hamdan, M.D., who is the Director of the Arrhythmia and Electrophysiology Program. Our other physicians are Roger A. Freedman, M.D., Nassir Marrouche, M.D., Nazem Akoum, M.D., and David Rawling, M.D.
Our pacemaker and defibrillator team consists of Brenda Fish, N.P., LeeAnn Spencer, N.P., Jessiciah Windfelder, N.P., Liena Brady, NP, Polly Chapman, R.N., and Aaron Smith, EMT-P. Polly is a NASPExam/AP/Pacing Testamur.
The University Health Care System has two Coumadin Clinics that support the management of our patients on Coumadin.
