The University of Utah Health Care Thrombosis Service, in cooperation with Intermountain Health Care Department of Medicine, hosted the first Biennial Western Regional Thrombosis Symposium and Working Group Session on May 6 and 7, 2010, in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The purpose of this one and a half-day scientific and academic medical conference was to foster consensus building and collaboration among multidisciplinary Western Regional leaders, and to encourage scientific discovery and medical education with regard to thrombosis diagnosis, treatment, and prevention in both clinical and research practices and health professional and public education and outreach.

On the afternoon of Thursday, May 6, a closed VIP Networking and Consensus Building Working Group was convened to develop task items to: 1) Improve regional networking and identify gaps related to current thrombosis research, clinical service, education, and career development, and 2) formulate recommendations and an action plan to improve networking and for addressing those gaps.

This dynamic meeting resulted in the following Working Group Task Items that will be championed by the individual Group Chairs with the goal of completion by the May 2012 Western Regional Thrombosis Symposium.

We thank all Working Group participants for their contribution to the formulation of these tasks, as well as any continued contribution to their success along the way.
