  nebeker
  • Dr. Nebeker’s research is focused on adverse drug events.

  • Surveillance projects operate at the level of the hospital and the level of the state. These projects are founded on statistical models for identifying imminent or actual adverse drug events. Models have been derived with regression and classification tree methods. These models are intended for use in rate estimation (at the hospital and state levels), clinical intervention (at the hospital level), and pharmacovigilance (at the state and system levels).

  • Decision support projects comprise clinical interventions and electronic medical record systems. He is the PI on an HSR&D IIR to evaluate a real-time alerting system that supplements CPRS. This VA project dovetails with an AHRQ funded initiative at 8 health care systems nationally. Dr. Nebeker is the scientific lead for this project. The ADE alerts are based on surveillance rules discussed above. The other decision support project is in conjunction with the VA Office of Information and CPRS development team. Dr. Nebeker and other IDEAS members are consulting on the next generation of CPRS, especially regarding to medication handling.
