John Kriesel, MD

John Kriesel, MDDr. John Kriesel graduated from the University of Illinois in 1984 and Washington University Medical School in 1988.  He came to the University of Utah that year and completed residency in Internal Medicine, then fellowship in Infectious Diseases.  Dr. Kriesel joined the faculty here in 1996.

Dr. Kriesel's primary interests here are in transitional and clinical research.  His current research projects involve: 1) development of novel DNA-based drugs to affect latent viruses, 2) the genetics of  human cold sores, 3) the genetics of human West Nile virus infections, 4) viral triggers of multiple sclerosis attacks, 5) vaccination against papillomaviruses, and 6) vaccination to prevent genital herpes.  Dr. Kriesel's clinical responsibilities include infectious disease consultations at the VA and University Hospitals, HIV clinic at the University Hospital and Utah State Prison, and attending at the Salt Lake City STD Clinic.
