Fellows in our program engage in a variety of both inpatient and outpatient activities to accomplish their training. These include inpatient pulmonary consultative services, medical and surgical intensive care rotations, outpatient pulmonary consultative and continuity care, and a county-administered tuberculosis clinic. Fellows are educated in the performance and interpretation of pulmonary function tests, cardiopulmonary exercise testing, and fiberoptic bronchoscopy and related procedures. In the critical care environment the fellow will receive training in a variety of procedures including advanced airway management, thoracostomy tubes and associated drainage systems, use of ultrasound for procedures, right heart catheterization, and transthoracic echocardiography.

In addition, sub-specialized training experiences within pulmonary and critical care medicine are also available at the University of Utah and affiliated hospitals, including:

  • Adult Asthma
  • Adult Cystic Fibrosis
  • Interstitial Lung Disease
  • Lung Transplantation
  • Sleep Medicine
  • Pulmonary Vascular Medicine
  • Interventional Bronchoscopy and Endobronchial Ultrasound
