Genetics

GeneticsThere are numerous neurogenetic laboratories housed within the Eccles Institute of Human Genetics (several of which are run by neurologists), though other labs include those at the Huntsman Cancer Institute, the George E. Wahlen Veteran's Administration Hospital, and within the University of Utah School of Medicine. Several of these labs previously participated in the Human Genome Project, and have subsequently grown into new and exciting fields.

Areas of neurogenetic research currently include DNA point mutation analysis, alternating hemiplegia of childhood, multiple cranial neuropathies, channelopathies and nondystrophic myotonias, heritable cerebellar ataxias, cellular adhesion molecules within tumor metastasis, vascular endothelial growth factor within tumor metastasis, as well as many other areas.
