Adult Neurology
The Neurology Residency Program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council of the Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) through the year 2011.
The structure and content of the program have been developed through extensive review by neurology residents and faculty. The program allows an increasing level of resident responsibility over three years, and is organized to reach a balance between work time, study time, and off-time which allows for optimal learning.
During the first year, the resident acquires an understanding of the neurological examination and its neuro-anatomical basis, and develops skills in managing neurological problems in both the in-patient and out-patient settings.
During the second year, the resident gains further experience through direct patient contact and through supervising junior residents on the inpatient services.
The third year is a time to consolidate this clinical experience, and to supplement it with elective time in neurology subspecialty areas or in research.
Our residency program incorporates didactic teaching sessions as well as on-hands clinical experience. Our didactic conference schedule follows the format of a standard text in general neurology, thereby allowing residents to have paired reading materials for each didactic exercise.
Following residency, approximately 75% of residents go on to fellowship training in a neurology subspecialty or in research.
