Faculty
There are 33 full time highly-regarded faculty members on the staff of the University of Utah Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Each are fellows of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Each takes a direct hand in training residents. Dr. C. Matthew Peterson chairs the department. Each faculty member maintains a subspecialty expertise such that residents are exposed to all of the important entities within the discipline of obstetrics and gynecology from reproductive immunology to gynecologic urology. The full time faculty currently comprise six basic divisions within the department.
Additionally, the residency program relies upon the direct teaching and supervision by the large staff of obstetrician/gynecologists at close-by LDS Hospital under the direction of Dr. T. Flint Porter, chairman. Moreover, a large group of clinical faculty from other Utah locations volunteer their time and talents to the residency and the department. Many are former faculty and residents of the Department of OB/GYN. Residents also benefit from the faculty and staff of the other excellent medical and surgical departments within the School of Medicine at the University of Utah.
The faculty have a wide range of research interests and encourage participation in research projects by residents.
