Maternal-Fetal Medicine
The Maternal-Fetal Medicine program, at the University of Utah, is a division located inside the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department. Our program consists of 19 M.D.'s and 3 Certified Nurse Midwife's.
Our Maternal-Fetal Medicine program offers care, by evaluating, diagnosing, and monitoring high risk pregnancy conditions such as high blood pressure, fetal abnormalities, diabetes, and early onset of delivery. The University of Utah maternal-fetal medicine obstetricians specialize in helping to make a high-risk situation less stressful to you, your baby, and your family. Our specialists work hand-in-hand with you and your obstetrician to develop a plan of care tailored to you, whether your risk is during the term of your pregnancy, during labor and delivery, or during the post-partum period.
According to The Society of Maternal Fetal Medicine, the definition for a Maternal Fetal Specialist is as follows:
"A Maternal Fetal medicine specialist is an obstetrician/gynecologist who has completed two to three years of additional training and formal education and clinical experience. MFM specialists have advanced knowledge of the obstetrical, medical, genetic, and surgical complications of pregnancy and their affects on both the mother and the fetus."
