Research Studies
The Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility has NIH, extramural, industry, and departmentally funded, basic research investigations in novel drug delivery systems for ovarian cancer and other gynecological applications (Peterson), the genetics of male infertility (Carrell), mechanisms of ovulation and luteal function (Gibson), Hox gene expression and its effects on uterine development and function (Capecchi), obesity and infertility (Hammoud), menopause (Jones), outcomes of IVF (UCRM). Collaborative projects are encouraged and potential collaborators are encouraged to contact the primary investigators.
The Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility in collaboration with the Division of Andrology and the Department of Human Genetics has an ongoing genetic repository for the study of heritable factors associated with sufertile and infertile families (Genetic Determinants of Infertility-Utah Registry of Infertility Studies). Suggestions for potential collaborative projects should be sent to Dr. Peterson, Carrell or Gibson. The projects will be assessed by the research coordination board and applicants will be notified regarding the feasibility of proposed studies. Numerous clinical trials are available within the department at various times. Clinical trials include assessments of medications for endometriosis, chronic pelvic pain, infertility, in vitro fertilization, hormone replacement, menopause, and osteoporosis.
