Assisted Hatching

Assisted Hatching is based on the hypothesis that a percentage of genetically normal embryos are unable to escape from the zonae pellucida (outer membrane of the egg) during continuing cell divisions. A weak acid solution is used to produce pits or areas of thinning in this membrane. The process results in accelerated release from the zona and implantation. It is used only when indicated in IVF.
