Welcome to the Moran Eye Center
Ophthalmology training at the highest levels
Since June 1979, the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of Utah School of Medicine has offered excellent didactic training and a superb surgical experience unsurpassed by any other program in the country. In 2006, the Ophthalmology Program and the John A. Moran Eye Center opened a new 210,000 square-foot facility that propelled the program to even higher levels. The provided enrichment by a cutting-edge research group, increased subspecialty patient volumes, and an unparalleled international program is hard to match anywhere.
Fantastic program, hospital, university and location
With twelve locations and four state-of-the-art ophthalmic surgery suites, more than thirty ophthalmology specialists carry out more than 8,000 surgeries per year. The Moran Eye Center benefits from sufficient patient visits, (120,000/year), to ensure a full spectrum of clinical or surgical experiences for both residents and fellows. The Moran residency and fellowship programs are crafted to mesh perfectly and to enhance the education of each specialist we train.
The Department Ophthalmology and the Moran Eye Center are key components of the 562-bed University Hospitals and Clinics. This includes more than 1,000 board-certified physicians staffing four University hospitals. Consistently ranked among US News & World Report’s Best Hospitals, we also provide training at the 121-bed Veterans Administration Medical Center and Primary Children’s Medical Center.
Located at the base of the spectacular Wasatch Mountains, the University of Utah is the flagship institution of higher education in Utah. With world-class skiing, gorgeous desert country, and a population known for friendliness, Salt Lake continues to be ranked among the top cities in which to live, and the postgraduate positions available at the John A. Moran Eye Center provide a superb overall experience.
We appreciate your consideration.
