The Department of Pathology is pleased to welcome Baoyu Liu, Ph.D. Dr. Liu will be working in the Brian Evavold lab, where he will be researching autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis and Type 1 diabetes. He specializes in force-based single-molecule, single-cell techniques in studies of T cell antigen recognition.
Dr. Liu received a B.A. and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Fudan University in Shanghai, China and a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering from Washington University in St. Louis. After completing his doctorate, he worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at Georgia Tech, where he learned the techniques he will be applying in his work.
Later, Dr. Liu began working with Dr. Evavold at Emory, collaborating with another postdoc, Jennifer Blanchfield, on autoimmune disease research. The disease-focused aspect of this work is appealing to him, as it has the possibility to have a real impact on people’s lives.
Outside of work, Dr. Liu enjoys tennis, badminton and table tennis. He is excited to have his family joining him in Utah later this month.
