Welcome Ryan Metcalf

The Department of Pathology welcomes Ryan Metcalf, MD to the University of Utah. Dr. Metcalf joins the Pathology faculty as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Clinical Pathology division.
Dr. Metcalf specializes in blood banking & transfusion medicine and is excited about the breadth of services offered at the University along with the focus on quality and value-based care. He comes to Utah from the University of Washington, where he was Assistant Professor of Laboratory Medicine and Associate Medical Director of the Transfusion Service. There, he enjoyed the challenge of building a new FDA-registered hospital-based transfusion service laboratory.
He holds a BS in cell and developmental biology from University of California, Santa Barbara and later earned an MD at the University of California, Davis. Dr. Metcalf completed a residency in anatomic and clinical pathology as well as a fellowship in blood banking & transfusion medicine at Stanford University.
As an outdoor enthusiast, Dr. Metcalf is looking forward to ski season this winter. He also enjoys golfing, hiking, rafting, and exploring his new surroundings with his family.
