Triple Board Program
The Triple Board Program is a training experience producing physicians capable of practice, teaching, and research in the integrated fields of pediatrics and psychiatry.
I am consistently impressed by the caliber of physicians this type of training produces, with the range of expertise that spans the three disciplines. Graduates have a keen understanding of child development, from both a pediatric and psychiatric viewpoint.
It has been a pleasure to see the evolution of triple board training programs across the country, stemming from the original six pilot programs, including the University of Utah. With the emerging awareness by primary care providers for the need of well rounded and comprehensive child psychiatric services, I anticipate that the Triple Board graduates will become increasingly valuable as consultants and specialists.
The Utah program has grown and developed with the help of the faculty and the triple board residents themselves. The three training programs teaming up to train triple board residents in Utah, have all received the maximum five year ACGME accreditation, reflecting the quality of each training component.
Thanks to a close working relationship between the three training programs, we have the unique flexibility to tailor the residency to the specific interests of individual residents, while retaining the core program requirements. Our graduates are truly prepared, upon graduation, to function as an attending physician in pediatrics, psychiatry or child psychiatry. Many graduates go on to develop clinical services for patients who are complex, with a combination of medical and psychiatric problems. This is a great time to consider integrated training.
