Call Schedule and Work Hours

  • Pediatrics:  General hours are from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.  Weekend rounds are generally from 7:00 a.m. to noon for some rotations.
  • Adult Psychiatry:  General hours are from 7:30 to 8:00 a.m. to approximately 5:00 to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.  Saturday or Sunday rounds may be required while on some rotations.  Some rotations require evening clinics once per week.  The emergency psychiatry rotation requires evening/night shifts.
  • Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Rotations:  General hours are from 7:30 to 8:00 a.m. to approximately 5:00 to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.  Saturday or Sunday rounds may be required while on some rotations.  Short term, there may be a once-per-week evening clinical experience (i.e., PCMC Adolescent Residential Treatment Center).

All rotations must comply with current ACGME requirements:  Work hours must be limited to 80 hours per week, averaged over a four-week period, inclusive of all in-house call activities.  Residents must be provided with 1 day in 7 free from all educational and clinical responsibilities, averaged over a four-week period, inclusive of call.  One day is defined as one continuous 24-hour period free from all clinical, educational, and administrative activities.  A 10-hour time period for rest and personal activities must be provided between all daily work periods.

On-Call Schedule

  • Pediatrics:  Every 4rd to 5th night, depending on the rotation.
  • Adult Psychiatry:  One to five calls per month, depending on the year of training.
  • Child and Adolescent Psychiatry:  Two weeks of telephone call is required during the last year of training.  The rest of the child psychiatry program is call free.
