Examination of current functionality in the existing CDS mechanisms and criteria engines available to institutions have revealed several areas of focus where more research, evidentiary review, and guidance can be provided. Examples of such areas of future AUC development are:
Repeat or follow-up imaging
AUC that includes guidance for appropriate imaging orders when initial imaging has already been performed and follow up imaging is required.
Rare conditions/diseases
Indication-driven AUC can provide extra guidance to care providers when placing imaging in the case of specified rare conditions or diseases.
