novalisThe Department of Radiation Oncology and the Radiation Therapy Clinic is located on the first floor of the Huntsman Cancer Hospital. Four Varian linear accelerators, including a Novalis stereotactic unit with robotic capability are in operation. Additionally, the department houses a new 16-slice, large-bore GE Lightspeed CT with 4D capability and an additional four-slice, standard-bore Lightspeed scanner, HDR brachytherapy suite (Nucletron), Eclipse, BrainLab-iPlan and Corvus treatment planning systems, Variseed for prostate seed implants, IMPAC record & verify and Varis Vision.  Active IMRT, IMRS/stereotactic, SBRT and 4D programs are in operation. 

 

A new IGRT-capable linear accelerator suite with significant imaging capabilities is under construction. Additionally, the University of Utah is home to the prestigious Scientific Computing and Imaging Institute (SCII) and the Department of Radiation Oncology shares strong research ties with the Huntsman Cancer Institute in the areas of deformable image registration for 4D imaging and dose calculation.

For added patient convenience, the Department also operates a satellite radiation therapy facility at the South Jordan Health Center equipped with a Varian Clinac 21EX. This facility is owned but operated by University Health Care. The clinic is staffed by the University of Utah Department of Radiation Oncology faculty physicians, who each rotate at the clinic one day a week.
