Department of Radiation Oncology

Research

The Department participates in clinical trials with several national cooperative groups including the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG), the Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG), and Children's Oncology Group (COG) and others. Drs. Gaffney, Hazard, Hitchcock, Shrieve and Tward are all Principle Investigators for RTOG and Dr. Shrieve is also a co-investigator for COG.

Faculty members have authored a significant number of peer-reviewed articles, and residents have been involved in many of these.  All of our residents either have recently or will soon present their research at national conferences.  Currently the faculty and residents are conducting over 10 investigational studies involving various disease sites.  

In addition, a study published in the Red Journal found that between 2002 and 2007 our residents had more first author publications per capita than those of any other Radiation Oncology residency program.
