RMCOEH Overview

RMCOEH was established in 1977 to meet the need for comprehensive occupational and environmental safety and health programs in the West. RMCOEH became a National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH)-sponsored Education and Research Center (ERC) in 1978.

To date and currently, RMCOEH has

  • 434 academic graduates,
  • over 5,000 Continuing Education, Hazardous Substance Training, OSHA, and Outreach registrants in more than 150 courses each year,
  • >$1 million in FY 09 research grant funding,
  • over 20 peer-reviewed publications each year,
  • dozens of presentations at regional, national, and international meetings annually,
  • services provided to over 700 Utah, regional, and national companies and government agencies, and  
  • 100% of recent graduates rating their programs as "excellent" or "very good".

RMCOEH is housed in the Department of Family & Preventive Medicine within the School of Medicine.  RMCOEH also has components and faculty in the Department of Mechanical Engineering (College of Engineering), Department of Economics (College of Social and Behavioral Sciences), Departments of Internal Medicine and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (School of Medicine), and the School of Business.
