Pilot and Small Projects Research Grant Program
The RMCOEH sponsors an annual pilot grant program to improve workplace occupational health and safety, reduce the burden of workplace injuries, improve health, and lower workers' compensation costs. The goal of this program is to encourage the development of new investigators, attract established investigators to occupational health and safety research and stimulate interdisciplinary research collaborations ultimately leading to new externally funded research.This NIOSH grant funding supports exploratory, interventional, or investigational research with direct linkage to NORA or NIOSH Research to Practice (r2p). Selected projects receive one-year project funding awards of approximately $10,000 which may support:
- Innovative approaches or lines of investigation
- Application of knowledge/expertise from other fields to occupational safety and health
- Development of new mechanisms to address emerging occupational safety and health concerns
- Translational research to practice projects
- Masters and doctoral capstone projects (faculty mentor required)
Project Principal Investigators should be full-time faculty or doctoral students within NIOSH Region VIII (UT, CO, MT, SD, ND, WY). Applications originating outside of Region VIII may be considered, but preference will be given to Region VIII research. Projects should result in at least one peer reviewed publication and prepare the investigators to submit additional, related research grant proposals.
