Career Day is a career mentoring activity that occurs during the Transition-to-Clerkship Course for the MSIII. Physicians and residents from 30 specialties participate giving the MSIII an opportunity to meet with physicians from five different specialties of their choice.
Learn About Specialties
Participating in a set of “speed-dating” rounds with faculty from each of those specialties in successive 30-minute blocks. Students are encouraged to ask questions about all aspects of the specialty because there are a variety of ways to determine specialty choice—lifestyle, procedures, acuity, continuity, organ-system or primary-care based, and the like—in a risk-free environment.
The event begins with a continental breakfast. The specialty sessions follow from 8:30 to 11:45 am. The event concludes with a lunch and panel discussion with the third-year clerkships directors. The directors discuss “How the MSIII Can Succeed on Clerkships” and match preparation.
The MSIII are also encouraged to use their personal experiences on clerkships to begin to formulate what they value in a career specialty.
