Applications for the 2015/2016 Academic Year
Applications for the 2015/2016 academic year will be accepted beginning April 20, 2015. Applications received before April 20, 2015 will be rejected and/or returned. Students may take a maximum of 8 weeks of elective time at the University of Utah School of Medicine. Applications will be processed in the order they are received. The scheduling process will begin on May 15, 2015. Students will be contacted if the requested rotation(s) and/or date(s) are unavailable.
Submitting an Application
The University of Utah School of Medicine uses the Visiting Student Application Service (VSAS) to receive visiting student applications. If a student's medical school does not provide access to VSAS a paper application may be used to apply to the Visiting Student Program.
Faxed applications are not accepted. Incomplete applications will not be processed and will be returned. Once verified, applications will be forwarded to the appropriate clinical department/division for approval and scheduling.
FOR DO Students: Not all rotations accept DO students. Please check our Fourth Year Elective Catalog for more information BEFORE applying for a rotation at the University of Utah School of Medicine.
Applications will be processed by the Office of Student Affairs and forwarded to the appropriate clinical department or division for final review and approval. The clinical department/division will be responsible for accepting the student for the specific elective at the designated period of time.
Some clinical departments/divisions may require students to provide specific documentation before considering their application. The clinical department/division will request this information from the student upon receipt of the application. The Office of Student Affairs will notify the student of action taken.
Accepting a Rotation Offer
Once a student has accepted a rotation they must pay an application processing fee, within five business days of their acceptance, to complete the application process. The application processing fee may be paid with a credit card on our secure e-commerce payment site. If a student modifies their rotation after accepting an offer a change fee may be charged.
Please ensure that you have completed the following steps in the application process.
- Completed Visiting Student Application. Paper applications require original signatures and school seal.
- All eligibility requirements are statisfied. If all eligibility requires are not satisified the application will be denied.
- An application processing fee is required for each application. Payment is made through our secure e-commerce site.
