Preventing, Recognizing and Treating Childhood Obesity
Project Overview:
Twelve practices in Utah are participating in a 9-month Learning Collaborative focused on improving the prevention and treatment of childhood obesity.
The Collaborative will include two half-day Learning Sessions on April 17, 2009 and May 15, 2009 at the Salt Lake Community College Miller Campus in Sandy. The sessions will include a summary of the evidence and best practice, tools related to prevention and treatment of childhood obesity, and training in process improvement. During the subsequent 9 months, UPIQ will provide ongoing technical support, monthly conference calls, web-based information, help with periodic assessments of progress, and conduct site visits to each participating practice.
As part of the Learning Collaborative, participants will:
-
learn effective strategies for preventing childhood obesity in infants and children;
-
learn how to identify and work with children who are at risk of becoming overweight or obese;
-
learn how to recognize, workup and treat children who have established obesity; and
-
take home tools, methods and key change concepts to implement in daily practice.
