Cynthia Best, MBA
Title: Associate Dean, Finance
Cynthia Best is currently the Associate Dean for Finance and Administration in the School of Medicine at the University of Utah. In this position, which she has held since July 2011, Cynthia is responsible for all Dean’s Office financial operations, the malpractice insurance trust fund, and School of Medicine department oversight. She serves as a liaison with and resource for the AAMC, the University campus, and the School department administrators.
Cynthia also concurrently functions as the Director of Mission-Based Management (MBM) at the University of Utah Health Sciences Center. She has held this position since 1999, the beginning of the MBM initiative. In this capacity she directs and is responsible for all aspects of Mission-Based Management, including financial reporting, budgeting, and oversight, mission activity analysis, policy setting, and the development and management of an integrated information system that includes an electronic CV tool for over 1,600 faculty.
Cynthia holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting, and earned a master’s of business administration with an emphasis in health care. Her professional areas of expertise, from experience in both academic health care and the private sector, include financial management, system development, and organizational change.

Jorie Colbert-Getz, PhD, MS, is the Assistant Dean of Education Quality Improvement for the University of Utah School of Medicine and Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine. Dr. Colbert-Getz is currently the MESRE (Medical Education Scholarship, Research, and Evaluation) chair of the Western Group for Education Affairs, and a faculty member of the AAMC’s Medical Education Certificate Program. In 2017, Dr. Colbert-Getz became the founding director of the Learning Communities Institute Research Network. She has over 30 publications, mostly focused on medical education assessment. Her overarching mission is to ensure assessments measure developmentally appropriate learning objectives/milestones. To that end, her research focuses on validity frameworks and other elements of assessment utility, survey design, and program evaluation. Dr. Colbert-Getz received her MS degree in Psychology from Illinois State University and her PhD degree in Educational Psychology from the University of Utah.
