Article by Department Faculty Selected as a Featured Article in Anesthesia & Analgesia, Featured on Podcast

We’re excited to share that an article written by some of our faculty (Drs. Brewer, Egan, and Orr) has been selected as one of the featured articles in Anesthesia & Analgesia for the month of September, and was also highlighted on the journal’s associated podcast.

This groundbreaking research was published earlier this year and focused on quantifying ataxic breathing (AB) as a means for early detection of opioid toxicity and opioid-induced respiratory depression (OIRD). The results of this study are noted as justification for further trials focused on replicating the results with other opioids and determining the clinical utility of including AB as an additional measure for spotting OIRD.

One of the other doctors involved in the research, Dr. Robert Farney, appeared on Anesthesia & Analgesia’s Featured Article podcast to discuss the team’s findings with Dr. Satya Krishna Ramachandran.

Congratulations to the team on this important recognition of their contribution to the future of perioperative and postoperative care!
