December’s Senior Resident Presentations offered a thoughtful close to the year, featuring two talks that invited the department to look beyond day-to-day practice and reflect on the broader scope of anesthesiology.
Kelli Scheinman, MD, opened the session with “Ethical Considerations in Organ Donation and Procurement.” Her presentation explored the complex ethical landscape surrounding organ donation, highlighting the critical role anesthesiologists play in balancing patient dignity, donor intent, and multidisciplinary decision-making. Dr. Scheinman’s talk prompted meaningful discussion on how ethical principles guide clinical practice in some of medicine’s most sensitive moments.
Following her presentation, Daniella Vazquez, MD, took the audience in a different—but equally engaging—direction with “Veterinary Anesthesia.” Drawing on cross-disciplinary insights, Dr. Vazquez shared how anesthetic principles translate across species, offering a unique perspective on physiology, pharmacology, and adaptability in anesthetic care. Her talk underscored how learning beyond traditional boundaries can sharpen clinical thinking and broaden professional curiosity.
Together, these presentations reflected the intellectual range and depth of our senior residents—demonstrating not only clinical knowledge, but also ethical awareness, creativity, and a willingness to explore the wider context of anesthesiology.
We congratulate Dr. Scheinman and Dr. Vazquez on their engaging presentations and thank them for contributing to a strong finish to this year’s Senior Resident Presentation series. Watch their presentations below.
