Welcome to Our 2026 CA-1 Residents!
The University of Utah Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative & Pain Medicine is thrilled to welcome our newest class of CA-1 residents — and training is officially underway!
From getting set up with new technology and sitting for their professional portraits to getting oriented and getting to know one another, our new teammates have hit the ground running. We couldn't be more excited to have them join our department and begin this next chapter of their training.
Meet Our 2026 CA-1 Class
Dr. Alborz Alimadadi
Interests: Skiing, baking sourdough, playing video games and board games, watching the NBA, hiking, trying new restaurants, and traveling.
Why the U? Utah has always been home — with easy access to the outdoors, nearby friends and family, and excellent training, the decision was easy.
Most looking forward to: Looking back and seeing all the growth made in such a short time.
Dr. Rachel Anders
Interests: I love mountain biking, skiing, and traveling.
Why the U? The anesthesia program is top-notch — and having grown up here, being close to friends, family, and the outdoors made it an easy choice.
Most looking forward to: Learning an entirely new skill set and building a new community of friends and co-residents.
Dr. Jordan Bagnall
Interests: I love most of the standard Utah things — running, cycling, skiing, fly fishing, and camping. I also love reading, coding, entrepreneurship, and spending time with my family!
Why the U? Great training with strong research and technology opportunities, close to family, and my wife liked the U for grad school options.
Most looking forward to: Becoming an excellent clinician and finding ways to improve the field through technology.
Dr. Maddy Folke
Interests: Most of my free time revolves around mountains or my three daughters — ideally both! You'll usually find me mountain biking, snowboarding, hiking, traveling, or being talked into "just one more ride" at Lagoon.
Why the U? The culture stood out. From my first interactions with the faculty and residents, I felt genuinely supported by a team of exceptional clinicians who are invested in each other's success.
Most looking forward to: Working hard, learning a ton, and becoming the kind of anesthesiologist my patients and colleagues can always count on — while building lasting friendships along the way.
Dr. Rebekah Ford
Interests: I love hiking, golfing, skiing, running, and reading.
Why the U? So many reasons! I completed medical school at the University of Utah and absolutely loved my interactions with the anesthesia department. The people were phenomenal and the education was top-notch — and getting to stay close to some of the most beautiful scenery in the world was a bonus.
Most looking forward to: Developing my own style as an anesthesiologist — trying out different approaches and finding my own way of doing things.
Dr. Savanah Hardcastle
Interests: I love trail running, spending time with my son, and reading.
Why the U? Great culture, access to the mountains, and family nearby.
Most looking forward to: Learning lots!
Dr. Andrew Hart
Interests: I love hiking, music, and skiing.
Why the U? Great programs, wonderful people — and mountains!
Most looking forward to: Building competence and confidence in the OR.

Interests: I love climbing, backpacking, and reading.
Why the U? It's an excellent team of physicians in an unbeatable location — I feel very privileged to train here.

Interests: Rock climbing, mountain biking, backpacking, canyoneering, spending time with friends & family, reading, and watching movies.
Why the U? I chose the University of Utah because of its outstanding clinical training, supportive and collaborative culture, exceptional faculty, unique opportunities through the ECHO program, and the unmatched access to outdoor activities that fit my interests.
Most looking forward to: Growing into a confident, well-rounded anesthesia provider while developing strong relationships with my co-residents and learning alongside them.
Dr. Meagan Oscar
Interests: Mountain biking, hiking, XC skiing, and snowboarding.
Why the U? I chose the U because of the supportive environment of the department, the high caliber of training I would receive, and the phenomenal outdoors access we are lucky to have here in SLC!
Most looking forward to: Becoming the best anesthesiologist I can be and being a part of this incredible department!
Dr. Jules Schechter
Interests: I love baking, reading, rollerblading, running, and playing piano.
Why the U? Excellent education, a great reputation, and easy access to the outdoors.
Most looking forward to: Becoming an expert in anesthesiology and growing confident and calm in high-pressure situations.
