Dr. Candice Morrissey Named Assistant Dean for Admissions
We are proud to share that Candice Morrissey, MD, MSPH, a professor in our Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative & Pain Medicine, has been appointed Assistant Dean for Admissions at the Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine!
In her new role, Dr. Morrissey will provide strategic leadership for the school's MD program admissions enterprise — overseeing recruitment, selection, outreach, and admissions processes. She'll partner closely with faculty, staff, and institutional leaders to advance mission-aligned admissions practices, support student success in the new MD program, and help ensure a welcoming, equitable, and high-quality experience for every applicant.
This appointment adds to an already remarkable year for Dr. Morrissey. A practicing anesthesiologist, she specializes in the care of pregnant women with cardiac disease and has worked extensively to expand access to safe, effective anesthesia care across both urban and rural communities. Within our department, she serves as Vice Chair of Quality and Safety and founded the Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesia Fellowship at the University of Utah — expanding specialized training opportunities across the Mountain West.
Dr. Morrissey was also recently named a 2025–26 Health Policy Fellow by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, a prestigious honor placing her among the nation's top health policy leaders. She is currently working on Capitol Hill, advising the U.S. Senate Finance Committee on undergraduate and graduate medical education and other health policy issues central to academic medical centers.
