Pain Research Center
The Pain Research Center takes an interdisciplinary approach to understanding pain — what it is, how it works, and how we treat it more effectively. Our team includes clinical care providers, psychologists, social scientists, basic scientists, and a biostatistician, all united by a shared conviction: no single discipline holds a complete view of pain.
Our Mission
We investigate the perception, causes, and consequences of pain. Pain is more than neural signals — its onset and persistence are shaped by psychology, personal history, and medical, social, and cultural environments. Though we share a common nervous system, we each experience pain as individuals. At the Pain Research Center, we study the underlying science alongside the individual differences that shape it. You can't understand one without the other.
