PI/CME involves a long-term, three-stage process by which a physician or group of physicians learn about specific performance measures, assess their practice using the selected performance measures, implement interventions to improve performance related to these measures over a useful interval of time and then reassess their practice using the same performance measures. PI/CME can award up to up to 20 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™ and may qualify for satisfying certain specialty board maintenance of certification requirements.

Stage A: Learning from current practice performance assessment
Stage B: Learning from the application of PI to patient care
Stage C: Learning from the evaluation of the PI/CME effort

How to begin

Schedule an appointment with UUCME to discuss the components necessary for your participants to be awarded CME credit. The completed Performance Improvement/CME Plan should be submitted to the UUCME office within 1 week following the conclusion of the PI project. The amount of CME credit is not based on time spent. Your project may also qualify for satisfying Maintenance of Certification requirements. For further details, please consult the AMA website on Performance Improvement, or contact the CME Office.
