IABtalks Networking Events
The Department of Biomedical Informatics Industry Advisory Board (IAB) at the University of Utah held an informative and engaging event on Thursday, October 4, 2018. This is the third Industry Presentation & Networking Event that our department hosted and it was our best attended with 130 students, alumni, faculty, industry reps and friends.
The evening was kicked off with the student “lightning” presentations. Michael Watkins, PhD candidate, introduced “The Emerging App Development Landscape within Precision Medicine” and he was followed by Janette Vazquez, PhD candidate and Jean Fredo Louis, PhD candidate. They presented “Personalized Health Application for Location-Specific Information Based on Data from EHR (PHALIDE)”. These two presentations, only five minutes each, highlighted some of the exciting work our students are doing. They are wonderful ambassadors for our department’s scholarly and applied training program.
As a sponsor, 3M Health Information Systems asked their Chief Medical Officer, Hon Pak, MD, MBA, FAAD to discuss “The Journey from Population Health to Precision Care”. His presentation was timely and fascinating. (Please see link below to view his entire presentation.)
Mark your calendars for the next IABtalk on April 18, 2019. We are proud to announce that Health Catalyst, Inc. will be the lead sponsor. We are looking forward to another impressive event!
“Thank you very much for the invitation and subsequently hosting us tonight. It was a terrific night and I was able to make a few meaningful connections with some fascinating people. The 6th floor of the law building was a beautiful setting and the food was even better. Please keep us in mind for future events or participation.”
“During the event, our students presented their interesting and relevant work that showcased the possibilities that technology can bring to our lives. So the IAB event allowed others (including me – even though I am an alumnus and adjunct faculty) to get an idea on the current research focus of the BMI department as well as introduce the students to graduate school opportunities as well as expositing students to potential employment opportunities. Overall, IAB is a great networking event that benefits all attendees.”
